On 18 November 2025, Khon Kaen University, led by Asst. Prof. Nattasamon Thanakunrangsarit, Vice President for Legal Affairs and Corporate Communications, presided over the merit-making ceremony and royal funeral prayers dedicated to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother, as an expression of loyalty and profound remembrance of Her Majesty’s boundless benevolence. The ceremony was attended by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Orathai Piyura, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, together with university executives and staff who gathered to pay their respects.
Participants observed mourning protocols with utmost dignity. Government officials wore formal white uniforms with black mourning armbands, while members of the public dressed in respectful black attire as a collective expression of grief and loyalty to Her Majesty the Queen Mother.
The ceremony commenced at 4:30 p.m., with the presiding officer lighting candles and incense in homage to the Triple Gem, followed by lighting a ceremonial offering set before the royal portrait of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother. Incense and candles were then lit before the Abhidhamma altar. Four monks chanted sacred Abhidhamma passages. After the chanting, officials spread the white cloth and ceremonial robe, after which the presiding officer presented the Pha Bangsukula. The monks performed the funeral rites, offered blessings, and the presiding officer concluded the ceremony by pouring water to dedicate merit to Her Majesty.
Khon Kaen Province, in collaboration with the provincial Sangha, scheduled the 30-day royal funeral chanting ceremony from Sunday, 26 October 2025 to Monday, 24 November 2025, as a gesture of eternal remembrance and gratitude for Her Majesty’s immeasurable benevolence.
Khon Kaen University served as a co-host of the royal funeral chanting ceremonies on 3 November 2025 and 18 November 2025. The university community expressed deep reverence and heartfelt gratitude, solemnly recalling Her Majesty’s gracious virtues and enduring legacy that will forever remain in the hearts of the Thai people.
